Want to Be a Quality Investor? You Need to Understand the Ecosystem

Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to attend a programme organised by Phillip Capital — the Phillip Capital Investment Conference. I got a complimentary ticket from my broker, M+.
The programme could be attended online, but I chose to attend in person because I felt it was better — I could meet face-to-face with people who are truly in the financial ecosystem and industry. Some of them I knew; they didn''t know me.
There was also someone who liked to tease me. He said my facial expression depends on the market condition — if the market is bad, I look dishevelled. But when I attend a conference like this, he says the market must be doing well.

The presenters who were invited shared a great deal of analysis and reviews on the current market. I consider this a valuable session because we could learn which sectors are trending and the latest geopolitical developments.
By attending programmes like this, I can connect and network with industry peers — I consider it a truly invaluable session.
I heard all sorts of stories when chatting with them. Among other things, I learnt how cooperatives function, and there was even a case of a remisier being scammed by another remisier.
There were also people who handle FCPO (Futures Crude Palm Oil), so I picked up a bit of knowledge about FCPO. There are many types of FCPO accounts, various advantages with certain brokers, how to key in FCPO orders, and so on.

A marketing representative (MR) of mine whom I hadn''t seen in a long time was also there, so we managed to arrange some business matters. Previously, I wanted to promote a ''private mandate'' to my clients. My MR told me why my clients weren''t interested in private mandates — because they prefer to invest on their own. So why would they give their money to a private mandate to manage?
Indeed, private mandates manage large funds with lower risk. However, when looking at the returns or performance of several other funds — even though positive at around 5% to 8% — clients might not be excited to invest in those funds. They prefer to invest on their own and aim for higher returns.

There was also a client of mine whom I hadn''t seen in a while, who brought his child along to expose them to the world of finance.
Besides that, I felt proud to have the opportunity to meet my idol, Pakdi. Back when I was a remisier, I used to read his insights all the time. Attending an event like this, I never expected that he would recognise me too.
I hope that for the newer generation, perhaps some of our readers will make a name for themselves in the industry one day.
There are many advantages to attending events like this — networking, gaining knowledge from presenters, and learning from participants who attend.
Seeing the benefits of a conference like this, an idea came to mind — to create a similar gathering session among my clients by encouraging them to be listed in the ''Top 10 Traders'' and have the opportunity to attend a monthly gathering with meals provided.
For those who are not yet my clients but are interested in joining the ''Top 10 Traders Gathering'', the fee is only RM589. This package includes venue rental, 3 meals, and runs from 10am to 5pm. If you''re interested, feel free to comment below this post.

If you feel it''s too expensive and can''t afford it, you can open a CDS account with me and learn about stocks consistently. It''s not impossible that one day you''ll also be invited to the next ''Top 10 Traders Gathering''.
In this July gathering, I will be sharing ''intraday'' techniques and the ''Jerung'' (Shark) technique. No stock counter purchase recommendations will be given during the session. Instead, participants will be exposed to methods for identifying stock counters and making purchases based on their own research and analysis.
Let''s open a CDS account with me and seize the opportunity to become a Top 10 trader!
