BigPay Card - Prepaid Mastercard by AirAsia

Loading...

BigPay was introduced by AirAsia, founded by Tony Fernandes, as a way for everyone to spend cashlessly, similar to an e-wallet.
What makes BigPay interesting is that it is a prepaid Mastercard, functioning just like a credit card that can be used for various payments including online transactions, Paywave, and PIN-based payments.
BigPay also makes it easier for you to control your monthly spending since you only need to top up the amount you have planned to spend.
Then, the remaining money can be set aside as savings.
For example, after calculating your monthly expenses at around RM700.
So you only need to top up RM700 in the BigPay App for your daily use. The rest goes into savings.

BigPay users earn points every time they spend using BigPay. For every RM30 spent, you earn 1 Big Point.
BigPoints can be redeemed at airasiabig.com for discounts on AirAsia flight tickets. Some of the discounts include:

The BigPay Mastercard will be delivered to your home address after completing your online application.
The delivery process takes 3-7 working days. Once you receive the card, activate it and you can start using it via Paywave and PIN.

The BigPay App records every purchase you make in the Analytics section.
So each month you can review every ringgit that goes out. From here, you can also control your monthly spending.

If your BigPay card is lost or stolen, you can immediately activate the Freeze function in the BigPay App.
Then report it to the BigPay support team through the App. The BigPay Support team will assist you.

Additionally, you can pay electricity bills, water bills, postpaid plans, internet, and more.
The best part is that you earn BigPoints after making payments. Every RM30 counts as 1 Point. You earn points while paying your bills.
If you pay via JomPay or website, no points can be collected.
For the list of billers that can be paid through BigPay, refer here: BigPay Biller.

The BigPay card has no annual fee whatsoever, unlike other debit/credit cards.
In fact, there is no charge even during the application process. Delivery is free.
However, you need to deposit RM20, which will be credited into your card once you receive it.

The BigPay card also allows you to withdraw cash at any ATM that accepts Mastercard.
For ATM withdrawals in Malaysia, there is a fee of RM6. For overseas withdrawals, the fee is RM10 (cheaper compared to other bank cards which typically charge RM12, based on my research).
In my opinion, if you are in Malaysia, you rarely need to withdraw using the BigPay card since its main purpose is to encourage everyone towards a cashless lifestyle.
However, if needed or in an emergency, you can still withdraw.
The withdrawal feature is actually worthwhile for travellers abroad who need cash, as the fees are cheaper compared to other bank cards.
